Do you know how to knit or crochet? A local woman needs your help.

For the past four years, Barbara Elias has recruited the help of others to benefit children in need at What Kids Need Moncton.

“If anyone wants to help out, we are happy to have you knit, hats, mitts or scarves. I’ve had about 30 responses which are amazing, but of course, some people only want to knit two. It doesn’t matter, if you want to knit two or if you want to knit twenty, you can still help,” Elias says.

This year, she needs over 800 pairs of mittens, along with hats and scarves to donate.

“We have 429 hats, 74 pairs of mittens and we have 49 scarves, but we still have a long way to go,” Elias says.

If you don’t know how to knit or crochet, she can still use your assistance. Other volunteers are willing to teach if you are willing to learn.

Donations of yarn are also appreciated, “That’s where is all starts. Even some of the ladies who normally do craft shows, because there are not many shows, maybe free to knit for us instead, which is wonderful,” Elias says.

She has even received donations of store-bought winter accessories for those who didn’t have the time to volunteer.

Giving to charity isn’t new to Elias. She has raised over $60,000 through her Facebook Auction, which has all been donated to local charities.
