At that first Juno, a large black man came into the room Everyone stared at him. It was unusual to see a black person at such a gathering Shocking to think about that now with so many talented artists of every race but that's how it was back then. I knew that that man was Oscar Peterson and went out of my way to chat with him. Many did not. He lived a quiet life in Mississauga and not many of his neighbors knew who he was. He was one of our truly great and although he got the recognition he deserved in later years he remained a very private and modest man.
